About Me
My name is Alexia Abarca and I’m a nineteen year old photographer. I have been in love with the art of photography and film since the age of twelve. It doesn’t seem like a long time, but since then I’ve learned a lot of things on my photo journey.
At the age of twelve, I received my first smart phone as a birthday gift. I was absolutely ecstatic! I remember I had to take a long car ride to Perris, California to visit family. For those of you that don't know, thats two hours away from where I live. Younger me hated being trapped inside a car for no longer than 30 minutes. It was a rainy day and I decided to take a couple of pictures of the rain filled windows. Of course I am still extremely proud of this photo today, because it was before I knew what depth of field was. Oh, for all of you that are not up-to-date with the photography lingo it basically means having a blurry background...

This photo always reminds me of where I started and how important it is to not compare your work to anyone else’s but your own.
I got my first DSLR camera (Canon Rebel T5i) at my 8th grade promotion, circa 2015. Ever since then, my camera has not left my side and it has led me to great opportunities. I've photographed concerts and dream of becoming a touring music photographer someday.
I am currently a college sophomore studying psychology. When I was in high school, I was apart of my schools Film and Media Academy which brought a lot of opportunities to my plate. The academy offers photography and film ROP classes, which helps students with preparing for a career in the future. I have already recieved my certificate of completion for ROP Intro & Advanced Photography and ROP Intro & Advanced Film. Including, many certificates awarded from the County of Los Angeles for video production. My class and I created my very first short film and got to work on an actual set where my job was to be the director of photography. Adding to that, I got to photograph a couple of bands and even got hired for a music magazine called Mosh Pit Magazine!
In July of 2020, I started a publication of my own called Punkaganda Press along side my friend and co-owner, Lou Watson. We are excited to show you what we all have in store for our music publication.
I've photographed so many cool things since I've gotten my camera. Once you're a photographer, you see, live and breathe photography. Everywhere I go, I always see great photo opportunities. My portfolio is still growing, as well as my skills and story, but I can not wait to share more with you.
